Hello! My name is Alexa Anderson, and I have been involved in academic and scholarly writing for over 15 years. As an early scientific writer, I was mentored by seasoned researchers who provided excellent feedback that elevated my own writing and editing skills. Having published over 50 peer-reviewed scientific articles in prominent academic journals, and mentoring graduate students for over 10 years, I am equipped with valuable skills that can benefit others. I have also been a peer reviewer and editorial board member for several scientific journals. Basic Copy Editing

Improve clarity and coherence in your scholarly writing. Your editor will correct grammar, proofread, and ensure simple formatting consistency. Major restructuring or line-by-line assessment is not completed. This is typically the lowest level of copy editing and does not include aspects of developmental/structural copy editing or substantive line editing.

Cost: $0.03-0.05 per word

Developmental & Structural Copy Editing

Focusing on the "big picture", this service looks at the content, its flow, coherence, and effectiveness. Sections may be reorganized or transition sentences added to improve the overall comprehension and precision of your writing. This service falls between more basic copy editing and in-depth line editing.

Cost: $0.05-0.07 per word

Substantive Line Editing

Your document is thoroughly examined for its coherence and overall quality. The editor focuses on the structure of sentences, flow and logical progression of ideas, and ensures that the text effectively communicates complex concepts. Issues related to tone, style, and consistency may also be addressed. This is the highest level of our Primary Copy Editing services.

Cost: $0.06-0.08 per word

Add-On: Abstract Editing

Our primary services do not include abstract editing. This add-on service will not only edit your written abstract, but will compare it with the rest of your document to ensure consistency and accuracy. If you are also developing an abstract for conference submission, we will edit your abstract and ensure it meets the submission requirements.

Cost: $50 per hour

Add-On: Reference List Formatting

If you find reference list editing cumbersome, your editor will review each of the references in your bibliography. This add-on service looks only at your submitted reference list to ensure consistent formatting and complete entries. This service does not include main text or in-text citation reviews/editing.

Cost: $50 per hour

Add-On: Citation and Reference List Agreement

This add-on service focuses specifically on reviewing your document's reference list (already in a consistent formatting) and ensures that all of your in-text citations are matched to a completed reference entry, as well as confirming that each listed reference is cited within the main body of your work.

Cover Letter/CV Editing

Help elevate your cover letter or curriculum vita/resume to guarantee that you stand out from the crowd. This add-on service will include both developmental and substantive editing services to enhance your documents that may accompany your manuscript submission, job application, or other opportunity that involves self-promotion.

Editing for Journal Standards

Academic journals each have specific formatting requirements. This add-on service will review your work in its entirety and ensure that you are closely and carefully following their recommendations. If you want a second submission ready for a different journal, we can accommodate multiple formatting requirements to make the process as smooth as possible.

Crafting Refined Work: Our Policies and Procedures (a.k.a. the fine print)

Steps to booking services with Anderson Scholarly Refinement:

1.) Request services and upload your documents in the form above. Include all documents necessary and relevant.

2.) We will respond to your request within 36 hours (excluding weekends), ask for any additional materials, and confirm your needed services. This will help in building an accurate quote and contract. Be sure to check your Promotions or Spam folder just in case!

3.) A detailed quote and contract will be sent to you within 24 hours of replying to our confirmation email. If you agree with the quoted service, simply sign the contract and pay the deposit invoice (50% of the total quoted price).

4.) Your remaining balance is due upon completion of work. You will receive an emailed invoice for the remaining balance once your work is completed. Upon payment, your completed documents will be returned to you.

Turn Around Time (TAT) policy:

Our current default TAT is 10 business days (M-F) starting when you sign your contract AND submit deposit. For example: if your contract is signed and your deposit paid at 9am CT on Friday, March 14, 2025, you can expect your services to be completed by end of business (6pm CT) on Thursday, March 27, 2025. We will not include the current day as the first business day if your signed contract AND deposit are received after noon CT. For example: should you sign your contract and pay your deposit at 12:05pm CT on Friday, March 14, 2025, then Monday, March 17, 2025 is considered the first business day, and your work will be completed by end of business (6pm CT) on Friday, March 28, 2025. This information will also clearly be conveyed in your contract and invoice. Completed work will not be returned until your remaining invoice is paid. Any deviations to the TAT will be discussed in your quote and included in your contract.

Expedited policy:

If you require an expedited TAT, please include that information in your request (or email us directly at Alexa@AndersonScholarlyRefinement.com). Please note, not all expedited requests can be accommodated, and all are subject to a 25-50% surcharge based on the non-expedited quoted price, depending on how soon you need the completed work.

Please note:

Unless specifically requested, title pages/cover letters, abstracts, or reference lists will not be included in the word count used to calculate your quoted services. They will also not be reviewed/edited as part of your service (unless you request these services be included).

Additional requests based on the same work:

Should you want us to re-review/edit your work again (same documents/project), we can offer a new quote at a discounted price. Re-requests will be considered at this discount only if they are received within 5 business days following the return of your original contracted work.

Confidentiality, integrity, and ethical policy:

The confidentiality of your work and materials are of the utmost importance to Anderson Scholarly Refinement. Documents will be kept in a secure server only available to your editor. We do not accept requests for ghostwriting. Ghostwriting violates standards of academic and research integrity, and instances of it can be considered violations of academic/research misconduct policies.
